A RELIABLE MOTOR VEHICLE IS REQUIRED -- The prison facility is NOT easily accessible via public transportation. Co-op candidates MUST HAVE A CAR. There is a 5-day mandatory orientation period for new employees held in Milford, MA. A car is absolutely required to get to the training locations.


The Research Assistant will play an active role in providing statistics, research, and evaluation results to guide planning, management and decision-making strategies for effective prison operations, policies, legislation, and services. The Research Assistant will respond to information requests from internal divisions, external criminal justice agencies, and other sources by completing data entry tasks, generating computer lists, and statistics utilizing software including SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) and preparing reports with MS Access, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, or MS Word.

Opportunities to observe offender activities (i.e. Parole, ICE, & Classification hearings), tour prison facilities, and attend relevant training will be part of this experience. Depending on skill level and research interests other opportunities to work on or develop special research projects may ensue.


Skills – Student must be organized, thorough, discreet, think analytically, and work with minimal supervision. Experience with computers, particularly with SPSS, Microsoft Excel, Access and Word preferred. Familiarity with research, interviewing and presenting data in the form of charts, tables, and graphs a plus, but not necessary.


A criminal background check will be performed for applicants.


Hours per week: 40 Mon-Fri (8-4) some flexibility. No holidays or overtime.

Salary: $14/hr.
