The next MACA meeting will be held Thursday, October 21 at 10am at the Boston Police Department (1 Schroeder Plaza, Boston, MA). Daniel Levenson, the Deputy Director for Communal Security at Combined Jewish Philanthropies, will present on Far Right Radicalization in the US Today and Implications for Public Safety.
Far-right extremist violence targeting minorities, law enforcement, government, and the general public is has deep roots in the US, and continues to pose a significant challenge to the criminal justice system and society at large. The actions of both individuals and groups who have carried out violent crimes, some planned in detail, others with very little apparent planning include the murderous crime spree carried out by The Order in the early 1980’s, the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, the shooting at the Oak Creek, Wisconsin, Sikh Temple in 2012, the murder of Heather Hyer in Charlottesville in 2017, and most recently the domestic terror assault on the US Capitol in January of this year.
This presentation will include:
- Implications for investigations and officer safety
- The application of some behavioral threat assessment and management tools to situations involving actual or potential violent extremist actors
- Brief presentation of relevant case studies
After the presentation, tours of the BRIC will be available for those interested.
